Trump indictment watch paused as Jack Smith grand jury concludes without charges on Thursday.

Former President Donald⁢ Trump Avoids Indictment, Investigation Continues

Exciting news from the federal courthouse in Washington, D.C.! Former ⁣President Donald Trump‍ has narrowly ‍escaped indictment, at least for today. According to reports,⁣ an official at the courthouse has confirmed‌ that no indictments have been returned and none ⁤are expected for the remainder of the ⁢day.

However, this doesn’t mean ⁣that Trump ⁢is completely in the clear. On July 18, he took to his ‍new ⁣social media platform, Truth⁤ Social, to reveal that he is the target of an ‍investigation into the infamous⁤ January 6, 2021,⁣ riot⁣ at the ⁤U.S. Capitol and alleged attempts⁣ to undermine the 2020⁢ election.

Grand Jury Deliberations and⁤ Special Counsel Investigation

Today, a ⁢federal ‌grand jury⁤ convened at the courthouse, fueling speculation‌ that charges might be imminent for the former president. ‍This grand jury is part of special ‌counsel ⁤Jack Smith’s investigation, which aims to uncover any efforts to subvert the 2020 election and impede the peaceful transfer of power during the Capitol riot.

Trump, however, remains defiant. In⁢ a post on Truth Social just after 1 p.m. EDT, he claimed that his attorneys had a⁣ “productive meeting” with Justice Department prosecutors earlier in the day. He downplayed the reports of an impending⁢ indictment, ⁣stating that no indication of such notice was given during the meeting. Trump also emphasized‍ that he⁣ believes‍ he did nothing wrong, with his attorneys providing a detailed explanation to support his innocence.

Trump’s spokesman, Steven ⁢Cheung, dismissed NBC News’s report that the former president’s‌ lawyers were informed about the expected ⁢indictment,‍ labeling it as‍ “incorrect.”

Past Indictments and Ongoing Legal Battles

It’s worth noting that⁤ this isn’t the first ⁤time Trump has faced legal ⁢troubles. Special counsel Jack Smith⁤ has already indicted him in Florida ⁢for allegedly⁤ mishandling classified documents after leaving‌ the Oval Office in ⁢2021. Additionally, Trump was ‍indicted in New York earlier⁤ this year in‌ a case related to a $130,000 payment made to porn⁢ star Stormy Daniels during the final days of the 2016⁣ presidential campaign. Trump has pleaded not guilty in both cases.

As the ⁤investigation continues, the Washington Examiner reached out to the clerk’s office for the federal district court for further information.
