Mace’s remarks quickly gained attention and sparked a range of reactions from the political Right. Some expressed shock that she would make such comments at a prayer breakfast.
She went to a prayer breakfast hosted by a Senator who amazingly hasn’t been able to find a wife and says she declined sex from someone who is not her husband. Goodness, this party can’t even pander properly anymore. https://t.co/rcVOL09Ow9

Despite the criticism, Mace took to Twitter to address the situation. She responded to Jack Posobiec, who initially shared the video clip, stating, ”I go to church because I’m a sinner not a saint!” Mace expressed gratitude that those in attendance, including Senator Tim Scott and her pastor, took her joke in stride.
I go to church because I’m a sinner not a saint!
Glad those in attendance, including @SenatorTimScott and my pastor, took this joke in stride. Pastor Greg and I will have extra to talk about on Sunday 😂 https://t.co/lQ3plPVhbf
