An IRS Whistleblower Calls for ⁢Special Counsel in Hunter‌ Biden Criminal Probe

An IRS whistleblower has recently demanded the appointment of a special counsel to ‍investigate ⁣the ‍criminal probe ⁢involving Hunter Biden. The whistleblower,⁢ Joseph Ziegler, testified before the House Committee on Oversight and ⁤Accountability and expressed his concerns about the Justice Department‌ obstructing the ‍investigation.

“Justice ⁣officials prevented investigators from following the evidence. Appointing a special counsel would create a path⁣ for the investigation to continue⁤ with integrity. I hope transparency will restore public⁢ confidence in the idea that every U.S. taxpayer​ receives equal treatment under ​the law. Sweetheart deals shouldn’t be ⁣handed out⁣ like candy to the rich, powerful, and politically connected,” Ziegler wrote in an opinion⁤ column for ‍the Wall Street Journal.

Ziegler further criticized the Department of Justice for rushing to charge the‍ case against Hunter Biden and failing​ to ‌follow ⁤standard investigative processes. This criticism comes after Delaware U.S. District ‍Judge Maryellen Noreika postponed a decision on the plea deal due to concerns about the ⁢terms, including provisions about immunity for future prosecution.

While Republicans have⁣ differing opinions on whether a special counsel should be appointed, Rep. ‍James Comer (R-KY)⁢ expressed his⁢ lack of confidence in Attorney General Merrick ​Garland’s ability to appoint an impartial​ special counsel. Comer,⁢ who is leading the House investigation into the Biden family, stated that the Oversight Committee will continue their efforts to prevent public officials and their families‌ from⁤ abusing their positions for personal ‍gain.

Some Senate⁢ Republicans have also called for ‍the appointment of a special counsel to investigate the Biden ‍family’s business dealings. ⁢Allegations ​of a $5⁢ million bribe accepted by then-Vice President Joe Biden from the Ukrainian​ gas company Burisma have raised concerns among these senators.

With ongoing investigations and demands for transparency, the appointment of ​a special counsel could⁤ provide an independent review of the Hunter Biden criminal probe and ensure the integrity of the investigation.
