Former President Donald Trump Embraces Legal Battles at Iowa’s 2023 Lincoln Dinner
Former President Donald Trump took the stage at Iowa’s 2023 Lincoln Dinner on Friday evening, exuding confidence as he addressed his numerous legal battles. As the final speaker of the night, Trump made a grand entrance to the tune of Brooks and Dunn’s “Only in America,” with the lyrics “One might end up going to prison/ One might just be president” playing in the background.
Three Key Revelations from Jack Smith’s Superseding Trump Indictment
This iconic song has been used by politicians in the past, including former President George W. Bush and former President Barack Obama. Released in 2001, it remains a powerful anthem that resonates with leaders from both sides of the political spectrum.
The Lincoln Dinner boasted a full slate of Republican presidential candidates, with a total of 13 contenders, including the notable presence of Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL).
While some candidates refrained from criticizing the former president, others seized the opportunity to attack him in light of the recent charges filed by the Department of Justice. Former Republican Texas Rep. Will Hurd boldly stated, “Donald Trump is running for president in order for him to stay out of jail,” which elicited a mixed response from the crowd.
On the other hand, DeSantis, who is considered Trump’s closest rival in the presidential race, focused his remarks on his own campaign. He skillfully avoided any direct attacks on Trump but passionately criticized the Biden-Harris administration and shed light on Hunter Biden’s controversial foreign business dealings.
During his speech, Trump didn’t hold back in his criticism of Ron “DeSanctus,” making it clear that he still had strong opinions about his rival.
