Musk’s X platform brings back Kanye West’s account.
(Reuters) – Social media platform X has reinstated the account of Ye, the artist formerly known as Kanye West, after it was suspended nearly eight months ago. The suspension occurred because the rapper had violated the platform’s rules prohibiting incitement to violence.
Ye’s account now displays his last post from December 1, a day before his account was suspended on platform X, which is the new name given to Twitter by its owner Elon Musk.
Ye won’t be able to monetize his account on X, and advertisements won’t appear next to his posts, according to the Wall Street Journal. The social media platform confirmed this.
Ye’s account was suspended in December, just two months after it was reinstated, due to a post that appeared to show a swastika symbol inside a Star of David.
X reinstated Ye’s account after receiving reassurance that he wouldn’t use the platform to share antisemitic or otherwise harmful language, according to a person familiar with the matter as reported by the Wall Street Journal.
Since his return, Ye has not posted anything new on the platform.
Reuters’ request for comment from the social media platform has not been immediately answered.
Elon Musk, the billionaire owner of X, who describes himself as a free speech absolutist, welcomed the rapper’s return to the platform in October when his account was first reinstated.
Musk had previously reinstated former U.S. President Donald Trump’s account after conducting a poll in which approximately 14.8 million Twitter users voted, with 51.8% voting in favor of the reinstatement. However, Trump has stated that he has no interest in returning to Twitter and will stick with his new platform, Truth Social.
Following a series of antisemitic rants in interviews and on social media, Ye lost his partnerships with Adidas and Gap for Yeezy products.
