NH Governor Sununu predicts a significant change in the GOP primary race within 6 months.
New Hampshire Governor Predicts a “Very Different” GOP Primary Race in Six Months
New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu believes that the Republican Party presidential primary race will undergo significant changes in the next six months. In an interview over the weekend, Sununu expressed his views on the impact of the criminal indictments facing former President Donald Trump.
During an appearance on ABC News’ “This Week,” Sununu stated that while the current indictments have rallied support around Trump, he expects this to change as the legal process unfolds and the former president faces additional charges. He emphasized, “Whether intentional or not, the Department of Justice is inadvertently allowing Trump to play the victim card. However, this narrative won’t hold up in the long run. Six months from now, we will witness a very different story.”
While Sununu acknowledges the possibility of Trump winning the GOP primary, he firmly believes that the former president cannot secure victory in the general election. He confidently stated, “The field will narrow down significantly. We won’t see 13 candidates heading into Iowa and New Hampshire. By Super Tuesday, it will be a one-on-one race, and Trump will lose. The majority of Republicans do not support him, as evident from the polls where he remains under 40 percent.”
Reflecting on Trump’s recent speech at the Iowa Republican Party’s Lincoln Dinner, Sununu criticized the former president’s lackluster performance. He remarked, “He came out, read from a binder, and didn’t even bother to look up or smile. It was an absolute dead speech. This is not the Donald Trump of 2016. He lacks the energy and the charisma that once defined him. While other candidates focus on the future and problem-solving, Trump drones on for 90 minutes about his legal battles.”
