Hurd anticipates being booed at Lincoln Day Dinner for Trump remarks.

2024 Republican Presidential Candidate Will Hurd Faces Criticism⁢ for Speaking Out Against Trump

In a ⁢bold move, ⁣Will Hurd, a former Texas ‍Congressman and ‌one of the leading contenders for ⁢the 2024 Republican presidential ‌nomination, openly criticized ⁣former President Donald Trump during a recent‌ speech. Hurd acknowledged that he ⁤anticipated backlash for⁢ his remarks, but he also expressed surprise at the positive response he received from some audience members.

“Of course, it was as expected,” said Hurd during an appearance on NBC’s Meet the Press. ⁢”I ‍knew there were going to be people that didn’t⁢ like it, but what I didn’t expect was there were a lot of people that actually clapped, and then there were more people that just‍ sat⁤ there ‍politely and probably understand and knew what I⁤ was saying⁤ was ⁣the ⁤truth.”

Hurd’s criticism of Trump has made him ‍stand out among his fellow primary candidates. During the recent Lincoln Day Dinner, he boldly stated that Trump’s motivation ‍for running in 2024 ⁤was to “stay out ⁣of prison,” which garnered boos from some attendees.

Aiming to Speak to Supporters ⁣of ⁢Personal Responsibility and a Strong America

Hurd emphasized that his speech was intended to resonate with those who believe in personal ‍responsibility and⁢ the⁤ importance of the United States on the⁢ global stage.

“Those were the people⁤ that⁤ I ⁣was going to speak to,‍ and also to prove to the rest of the field that we’re running for an election, ⁢and if you’re ⁤afraid to‍ talk about Donald⁤ Trump ⁢or talk about his baggage, then ⁤you’re not ready ‌to be president of the United States.”

He firmly believes that addressing Trump’s controversial legacy is crucial for any candidate aspiring⁣ to lead the nation.

Interestingly, Hurd is not alone in his criticism of Trump within the⁤ Republican Party. ⁢Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has⁣ also been vocal about his disapproval. ⁢Christie recently referred to Trump as “a liar and a coward” in response to Trump’s dismissive remarks about Christie’s indictment.

A recent Monmouth University⁤ poll revealed‍ that a significant portion⁤ of Republican voters still view ⁢Trump as the strongest nominee to challenge President Joe Biden‌ in 2024. However, ⁤when compared directly to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Trump emerged as ‌the preferred‌ choice among GOP voters.
