Zelensky predicts fighting on Russian soil is unavoidable.
Ukrainian President Justifies Military Attacks on Russian Territory
In a televised address on Sunday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky defended the military attacks on Russian territory, describing them as “fair” and “inevitable.” Zelensky stated, “Ukraine is growing stronger, and gradually, the war is reaching the symbolic centers and military bases of Russia. This is a natural and absolutely just process.”
The remarks were made on the same day when Russian officials reported the downing of three Ukrainian drones in Moscow. This incident highlights Ukraine’s determination to bring the fight into Russia itself, as two office buildings near the Kremlin were damaged in the attack.
Zelensky further emphasized, “Russian aggression has failed on the battlefield. Today marks the 522nd day of the so-called ‘special military operation,’ which the Russian leadership expected to be over within a week or two.”
This drone attack follows a previous incident on May 3, where two explosive drones were shot down over the Kremlin. Despite Russia accusing Ukraine, the latter denied any involvement.
These comments come amidst escalating tensions between Russia and the United States. Last week, a Russian fighter jet fired flares at a U.S. drone in Syria, causing damage to its propellers. In March, another Russian fighter jet damaged the propellers of a U.S. drone, leading to its crash into the Black Sea. The White House condemned this incident as “unsafe and unprofessional.”
