DC mayor’s office investigation reveals ex-chief of staff’s sexual harassment of another woman.

Former Chief of Staff to D.C.‌ Mayor Accused of Sexual Harassment

The former chief of staff to‌ Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser has been accused of sexually harassing a woman multiple times in 2020, according‍ to an internal report.

The Mayor’s Office of Legal Counsel released a report on Monday, substantiating two allegations made⁢ against John Falcicchio,‌ the former chief of staff and deputy mayor to Bowser. Falcicchio, who had been a close‍ adviser ‌to the mayor for several years,‌ resigned from his position in March. This report represents the latest allegation against him, as⁤ he has already been accused of sexual harassment ⁢by at least two D.C. employees.

Details of the Allegations

The report provides details of four allegations, but only ‌two of them were substantiated.

  • The⁤ first substantiated claim involves Falcicchio allegedly making unwelcome, physical, sexual advances toward a woman in his apartment on four separate⁢ occasions in 2020. The‌ report states that the woman‌ was at his apartment for work-related reasons at his direction. It also mentions ⁤an additional incident of an unwanted⁣ sexual advance at a different location.
  • The second substantiated claim is that Falcicchio sent flirtatious messages to an anonymous female employee in 2020, asking ⁢personal questions about her romantic life in an attempt ‍to manipulate her into feeling comfortable with him.

The report concludes‍ that Falcicchio’s behavior⁤ “more likely than ‌not ⁢constituted sexual ⁢harassment” and violated the D.C. mayor’s office policy.

Following⁤ Falcicchio’s departure, Lindsey Parker was hired as the new chief ‍of staff to the mayor, and Keith Anderson was appointed as interim deputy ‌mayor.

Recommendations for Improvement

Upon concluding the investigation,⁣ the report’s recommendations to the Mayor ⁤focused on enhancing policies and procedures to‌ prevent sexual harassment ⁤and encourage reporting for timely and appropriate resolution of future‌ issues.
