House Republicans are currently investigating Hunter Biden’s plea deal.

House Committees Launch Inquiry into Hunter Biden’s Plea ⁣Deal

Despite the‌ explosive courtroom drama surrounding Hunter ‍Biden’s plea deal, leaders of three ⁢House committees are determined to⁣ uncover the Department of Justice’s intentions behind it.

The deal fell apart when U.S. District Judge Maryellen Noreika raised concerns and refused to approve it. Consequently, Hunter⁤ Biden pleaded not guilty to the charges against him,‌ and both sides are now expected to ⁣negotiate a new agreement.

During the hearing, Judge Noreika criticized the deal, calling it “not standard” and‍ potentially “unconstitutional.” The New York Times reported that she even questioned its validity, suggesting it may not be ‌worth the paper it’s printed on.

The rejected ⁢agreement would have granted Hunter Biden broad immunity for crimes not covered by the ⁢deal, according to the New York Post.

Furthermore, whistleblower comments indicated that Hunter Biden had been receiving preferential treatment, adding to⁢ the⁣ concerns of House Judiciary ⁢Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, and Ways and Means Committee Chairman ⁢Jason Smith. They wrote ⁣a letter to ⁤Attorney General ⁢Merrick Garland demanding an explanation for the unusual events surrounding the‌ plea deal.

“Given recent unusual events relating to the Department’s ‍plea and pretrial diversion agreements with ⁣Mr. Biden, we write to better understand the Department’s decision to sign off on such apparently atypical agreements,” the letter said.

The letter specifically focused on two parts of the deal, highlighting that it prevents criminal charges against Hunter Biden for the gun charge and other federal charges within the scope of the agreement. It also raised concerns about the ⁢inclusion⁤ of unrelated conduct in ⁤the plea agreement.

The letter expressed serious concerns about the Department’s handling of the matter,⁢ suggesting that it shifted‌ a broad immunity provision from the plea agreement to the pretrial diversion agreement to avoid scrutiny from the District Court.

The letter also expressed concerns that the Department ⁤may be using⁣ ongoing investigations ⁢as a shield to avoid Congressional oversight. It questioned the Department’s disagreement with Hunter Biden’s ⁤attorney regarding the ⁢scope of the⁤ immunity⁣ provision and raised doubts‌ about the discussions between the Department and Biden’s counsel regarding the status ⁤of those investigations.

The letter requested information on similar deals made by the Justice Department in the past 10 years ‍and inquired whether the sections of concern were suggested by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Delaware or Hunter Biden’s lawyers.

House Republicans are determined to ⁤investigate⁣ Hunter Biden’s plea deal and shed light on the Department of ⁤Justice’s decision-making⁣ process.
