Republicans Outnumber ‌Democrats ⁤in‍ America

According to multiple Gallup polls⁤ this year,⁣ more ‌Americans ⁣identify‌ as Republicans than Democrats, breaking ⁣a trend that has persisted since 1988.

Gallup’s most ‍recent monthly poll, conducted throughout ⁤July, reveals that 27 percent of the ‍country identifies as Republicans, while 25 percent identify‍ as Democrats. Independents, comprising‍ 45⁤ percent, outnumber members of ⁢either party.

However, ⁢many of these independents lean towards the Republican party. When factoring in the number of‍ independents who lean Republican, 45 percent of respondents support the GOP, compared to 42 percent who either identify as Democrats or lean Democratic.

The Gallup⁤ monthly polls consistently show Republicans outnumbering⁣ Democrats ‍this year, marking a⁢ significant shift in party⁤ identification.‍ Since 1988, the trend has been more Americans identifying as Democrats than Republicans. In recent years, from 2016 to 2020, more ⁣people identified as or leaned Democratic, according to yearly ‌averages.

In 2022, Gallup found party membership to be tied, coinciding with the media ‍reporting on a “political shift” towards the GOP, as‌ noted by the Associated Press. “Across 31 states, about two-thirds of voters who have switched their official party ‍registrations in the past year have switched to the Republican Party,” the AP⁢ biden-covid-health-presidential-e50db07385831e67f866ec45402be8b9″ target=”_blank” rel=”noopener”>reported. This shift was particularly ‍pronounced and deemed⁢ “dangerous for Democrats” in ‍suburban areas like Denver and Pittsburgh. While the anticipated Republican wave did not materialize in the 2022⁤ midterms, ⁣Republicans gained control of the House and won the popular vote.

This poll comes at a time when Democratic President Joe Biden faces ‍record-low approval ratings. A June poll by Pew Research Center showed Biden’s approval ‍rating at only 35 percent. Additionally, a‌ Washington Post poll revealed that just 38 percent of ⁢Democrats want⁣ Biden to run for reelection.
