Giant ‘X’ on Twitter Headquarters Removed Amid Battle with San Francisco Officials
Twitter made a bold move by installing a bright and flashy “X” sign on top of its former headquarters, but it didn’t last long. According to The New York Times, the sign was taken down on Monday after receiving numerous complaints.
City inspectors were sent to investigate the sign multiple times over the weekend, but they were denied access. Twitter employees claimed that the sign was only temporary.

The San Francisco Department of Building Inspection stated that a building permit was required for the sign to ensure its structural soundness and safe installation. Twitter will now face fees for permits, as well as the cost of the investigation.
Some residents expressed concerns about the stability of the sign, fearing that an earthquake could bring it crashing down onto the street.
The “X” sign represents the transformation of the Twitter brand into X, a new venture led by Elon Musk. Musk aims to create an all-encompassing app and recently appointed Linda Yaccarino as the new CEO.
Musk tweeted, “In the months to come, we will add comprehensive communications and the ability to conduct your entire financial world. The Twitter name does not make sense in that context, so we must bid adieu to the bird.”
Twitter has yet to respond to requests for comment.
