Republican Rep. Ronny Jackson Handcuffed and Detained While Trying to Help with Medical Emergency at Rodeo
On Saturday, a remarkable incident unfolded at the White Deer Rodeo in Texas, involving Republican Rep. Ronny Jackson. Jackson, who previously served as a White House doctor for former President Barack Obama, found himself in handcuffs and briefly detained.
The incident occurred when Jackson responded to a call for help from a 15-year-old girl who was experiencing a medical emergency. According to a statement from Jackson’s office, there were no uniformed EMS providers on the scene at the time, so he stepped in to assist.
However, in the midst of the chaotic environment, confusion arose with law enforcement, leading to Jackson’s brief detention. Fortunately, once it was realized that Jackson was a medical professional attending to the girl’s emergency, he was immediately released.
Sheriff Tam Terry acknowledged that a person was temporarily detained but did not specifically identify Jackson. The sheriff is currently reviewing the incident.
A Heroic Effort Amidst Chaos
Linda Dianne Shouse, a relative of the girl in distress, took to Facebook to express her disappointment with the rescue team’s handling of the situation. Shouse, along with her cousin, who is a BSN in a trauma hospital, and Jackson, worked together to stabilize the girl.
Shouse described the intense scene, where law enforcement officials disregarded the medical professionals’ advice and even resorted to physical force. She expressed her shock and called for prayers for the girl, who was eventually taken to receive further medical attention.
Shouse later updated her Facebook post to personally thank Dr. Ronny Jackson for his act of kindness and professionalism during the medical crisis. She praised the effective communication and collaboration among the healthcare professionals involved.
Shouse recounted to CNN that at one point, a law enforcement official aggressively confronted Jackson, shouting expletives and disregarding his profession. The situation escalated, resulting in Jackson being forcefully restrained and handcuffed.
However, once the police realized Jackson’s identity, he was promptly released.
Time Is of the Essence
Shouse expressed frustration over the delay caused by the incident, emphasizing the importance of timely medical intervention, especially in potential neurological cases. Despite having the situation under control and preparing to transfer the patient to EMS, the unnecessary detainment disrupted the urgency of the situation.
This incident highlights the challenges faced by medical professionals in high-pressure situations and the need for effective communication and cooperation between law enforcement and healthcare providers.
