Memphis police shoot alleged gunman targeting Jewish school.
Police Foil Potential Shooting at Jewish School in Memphis
Police in Memphis successfully prevented a potentially deadly shooting at a Jewish school on Monday. They took down a gunman who was attempting to gain entry into the building.
The suspect, who was previously a student at Margolin Hebrew Academy, an Orthodox Jewish day school, fired his gun outside the facility. Fortunately, no classes were in session at the time.
After failing to gain entry, the suspect left the scene. Staff members immediately contacted the police and provided a description of the suspect’s vehicle. The quick response from law enforcement led to the suspect’s arrest several miles away from the school.
The suspect, armed with a gun, exited his vehicle and was shot by the police. He was then transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
“Today is a great example of very alert, vigilant officers trying to protect the city,” said Assistant Chief Don Crowe. “I personally truly believe we have avoided a tragedy. I think the suspect was going to harm somebody before the day was over.”
The school’s safety procedures played a crucial role in preventing any harm to students or staff. The incident has highlighted the importance of security measures in educational institutions.
The school expressed gratitude to the Memphis police for their swift response and credited their extensive security measures for ensuring everyone’s safety.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is currently leading the investigation into the incident, and the motive behind the suspect’s actions remains unknown.
