Woman Denied Bail After Fatal Drunk Driving Incident
A woman accused of driving drunk at a speed over twice the limit and causing the death of a South Carolina bride broke down in tears as a judge denied her bail. The incident occurred in April when the bride was riding in a golf cart from her wedding reception.
Jamie Komoroski, 25, appeared in court via live video and sobbed as Judge Michael Nettles made his decision. The victim’s family testified at the emotional bond hearing, describing it as a “very tragic situation for all concerned.”
“[Komoroski] didn’t just kill my child,” said Lisa Miller, the mother of the victim. “She killed all of us.”
Komoroski is accused of driving 65 mph in a 25 mph zone with a blood alcohol level more than three times the legal limit. The incident took place in Folly Beach, South Carolina, on April 28. The golf cart, which was legally allowed on the road, was struck by Komoroski’s vehicle.
The bride, Samantha Miller, was pronounced dead at the scene, while her husband sustained serious injuries. Komoroski was reported to be unremorseful at the crash site, claiming she did nothing wrong.
Komoroski has been charged with reckless vehicular homicide and three counts of driving under the influence, causing death or great bodily injury. Judge Nettles urged both families to find a way to expedite the trial for closure.
