Biden Administration surpasses limits on releasing immigrants into U.S.
The Biden Administration Breaks Its Own Limits on Immigration
The Biden administration has reportedly exceeded its own limits on allowing immigrants into the U.S., despite expanding legal pathways into the country. This revelation comes as the United States faces a historic crisis on its southern border.
Customs and Border Protection officials on the U.S. southern border have been permitting an average of 1,473 immigrants a day to enter the country through the CBP One app. This data, obtained by The Washington Free Beacon, reveals that the current limit of 1,450 per day has been surpassed.
The CBP One app, launched in October 2020, has been significantly expanded under the Biden administration. While it serves as a major avenue for immigrants to legally enter the United States on parole, it is not the only option for asylum seekers.
In addition to the app, the Biden administration has also expanded sponsorship programs for immigrants from specific countries. For instance, there are currently 30,000 monthly slots available for immigrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela.
Overflowing Resources and Strained Communities
The Biden administration’s disregard for its own parole limits under the CBP One app is occurring amidst a historic crisis on the U.S. southern border. Over the past two years, millions of immigrants have crossed the border, overwhelming communities and stretching public and private resources to their limits.
New York City, for example, has already reached its capacity after receiving a small fraction of the immigrants who have crossed the southern border. Mayor Eric Adams has even approved the distribution of fliers along the border, informing incoming immigrants that the city cannot accommodate them.
“It’s not going to get any better,” Adams said on Monday. “From this moment on, it’s downhill. There is no more room.”
Images captured in New York City show numerous immigrants sleeping outside the Roosevelt Hotel in Midtown Manhattan. The hotel, which had been closed for several years, was reopened in May by Adams to serve as an arrival center for thousands of immigrants entering the city from the southern border.
Despite the Biden administration’s claims of a ”70% reduction” in illegal immigration since the repeal of Title 42 in May, critics argue that the administration has simply expanded legal pathways and redirected immigrants through ports of entry instead of curbing overall immigration.
“The number of illegal and inadmissible aliens coming into the country is still just as high, but the administration is using a shell game and sending people through ports of entry instead of between ports of entry, and then declaring that an improvement on the border,” explained Lora Ries, director of the Border Security and Immigration Center at The Heritage Foundation.
The Biden administration’s actions raise concerns about the effectiveness of its immigration policies and the strain it is placing on communities along the southern border.
