Celine Dion’s sister reveals concerning update on singer’s health struggle.
Celine Dion’s Struggle with Rare Disease
Celine Dion’s sister, Claudette Dion, has revealed the challenges they have faced in finding medicine to help the singer after she was diagnosed with a rare disease. In an emotional interview with Le Journal de Montreal, Claudette shared their journey of working with top researchers in the field, but unfortunately, seeing little improvement since Celine announced her diagnosis of stiff-person syndrome (SPS) in December. SPS is a progressive disease that leaves its victims as “human statues,” unable to walk or talk.
“We can’t find any medicine that works, but having hope is important,” Claudette expressed. She believes that rest is crucial for Celine’s recovery, stating, “She always goes above and beyond, she always tries to be the best and top of her game. At one point, your heart and your body are trying to tell you something. It’s important to listen to it.”
Claudette continued to share that Celine is dedicated to staying informed about the latest research on this rare disease. Even when she is busy, Celine’s sister Linda, who lives with her, keeps Claudette updated on her progress. The support from Linda and the commitment to seeking expert advice give them hope for Celine’s future.

A Difficult Decision
In May, Celine Dion made the difficult decision to cancel the remaining dates of her “Courage” world tour in order to prioritize her health. The renowned singer expressed her “tremendous disappointment” in having to disappoint her fans once again. Taking to Instagram, Celine shared her determination to regain her strength and emphasized the challenges of touring, even when one is at their best.
“It’s not fair to you to keep postponing the shows, and even though it breaks my heart, it’s best that we cancel everything now until I’m really ready to be back on stage again,” Celine wrote. Despite the setback, she assured her fans that she is not giving up and eagerly looks forward to reconnecting with them in the future.
Last year, Celine Dion bravely revealed her diagnosis to her fans after canceling several concerts on her tour. In a heartfelt message, she acknowledged the difficulties she had faced in addressing her health challenges. She disclosed her diagnosis of the rare neurological disorder, stiff-person syndrome, which affects only one in a million people.
While it pains her to do so, Celine acknowledged the importance of prioritizing her health and made the difficult decision to cancel the remaining tour dates for North America.
