Prosecutors seek protective order due to Trump’s social media posts.
The Department of Justice Seeks Protective Order in Response to Trump’s Controversial Post
The Department of Justice has taken action against former President Donald Trump’s recent post on Truth Social, filing a motion for a protective order. This comes after Trump was instructed not to discuss the 2020 election case with anyone other than his legal counsel during his arraignment in a Washington, D.C. court.

Trump, who now faces his third indictment this year for allegedly attempting to overturn the 2020 election results, has been given specific conditions to adhere to by Magistrate Judge Moxila Upadhyaya. The judge stated that Trump may only discuss the case with his legal counsel or in the presence of his attorney.
“And in recent days, regarding this case, the defendant has issued multiple posts either specifically or by implication including the following, which the defendant posted just hours ago,” the court filing stated, referring to Trump’s Truth Social post.
It is customary for the court to caution defendants against discussing case details with anyone outside their legal defense team. This means that Trump must refrain from sharing case information with his inner circle, including campaign team officials and employees.

“If the defendant were to begin issuing public posts using details or, for example, grand jury transcripts obtained in discovery here, it could have a harmful chilling effect on witnesses or adversely affect the fair administration of justice in this case,” the court filing emphasized.
Meanwhile, in Alabama on the same day, Trump referred to special counsel Jack Smith, who is leading multiple investigations against him, as a “lost soul” and a “deranged sick person.”
