Musk offers to cover legal fees for employees facing trouble due to online posts.
Elon Musk Offers Legal Aid for Unfairly Treated X Users
Elon Musk, the visionary behind X (formerly known as Twitter), has made a remarkable offer to users who have faced unfair treatment by their employers due to their posts on the platform. In a bold statement on Saturday, Musk declared, ”If you were unfairly treated by your employer due to posting or liking something on this platform, we will fund your legal bill. No limit. Please let us know.”
Users Rally to Share Their Stories
The response to Musk’s offer was overwhelming, with tens of thousands of users flocking to the post to share their experiences of workplace discrimination resulting from their X posts. Many users highlighted the case of former President Donald Trump, who was removed from the platform for his posts and accused of inciting the Jan. 6 riot online.
“YUGE! Elon is a true free speech warrior,” exclaimed Chaya Raichik, owner of the popular Libs of TikTok account, in response to the news. Raichik even tagged X users who had been fired for following her conservative account, showing solidarity and support.
Former congressional candidate Laura Loomer expressed her frustration, stating, “This is not right. If anyone should be getting justice and compensation for legal fees from Twitter, it’s me and Donald Trump. How quickly everyone wants to forget what Twitter did to me for 5 YEARS. Smeared me. Unverified me. Banned me. Targeted me. Illegally interfered in both of my elections. Told other companies to ban me.”
Musk’s Battle Against Misinformation
This announcement from Musk comes on the heels of his threat to sue The Center for Countering Digital Hate, an organization that researches misinformation on social media. Musk alleges that they have spread lies about X and the presence of hateful speech on the platform.
Meanwhile, former X employees have taken legal action against the company. In mid-July, a class action lawsuit was filed, accusing Musk of violating the company’s previous severance plan. Additionally, X’s finance chief filed a similar suit in June, claiming that the company failed to fulfill promised bonus payments amounting to “tens of millions of dollars.”
Musk proudly shared that X has reached a new milestone, boasting over 541,000,000 monthly users. The platform has also been recognized as the fastest-loading social media site by web design company DigitalSilk.com.
