Former Vice President Mike Pence: A Key Witness in Trump’s Trial
According to Trump’s lawyer, John Lauro, former Vice President Mike Pence will be one of the most compelling witnesses in the trial of former President Donald Trump.
Lauro made this bold claim on Sunday news shows, despite Pence’s previous statements that Trump had urged him to violate the Constitution and overturn the 2020 election results.
This issue is a crucial part of the recent four-count indictment against Trump, which charges him with election interference and other crimes related to the Capitol incursion on January 6, 2021.
During an interview with Major Garrett on the CBS program “Face the Nation,” Lauro dismissed any concerns about Pence being called as a witness, stating, “No. In fact, the vice president will be our best witness.”
Lauro clarified that Pence misunderstood Trump’s request, explaining, “What I said is the ultimate ask of Vice President Pence was to pause the count and allow the states to weigh in. That was my statement, and what I’ve said is consistent with what Vice President Pence is saying.”

However, it is worth noting that 147 members of Congress seemed to agree with Trump’s concerns, as they voted against certifying the election results of certain states.
Disagreements over elections are not uncommon in the nation’s history, as seen in the 2000 election between George W. Bush and Al Gore. The ongoing battles against Trump, including two impeachments and multiple indictments, seem to be driven by a desire to prevent him from regaining office, regardless of the voters or the Constitution.
It is no surprise that Trump continues to dominate in GOP primary polling, as these efforts to undermine him only strengthen his support among his base.
