Florida Judge Questions DOJ’s Use of Washington Grand Jury in Trump Case
Florida-based federal Judge Aileen Cannon has raised concerns over the U.S. Department of Justice’s (DOJ) ongoing utilization of a Washington grand jury. The purpose behind this grand jury is to potentially bring forth additional charges in the case involving former President Donald Trump’s handling of classified government records at his Florida residence.
Judge Cannon has requested the DOJ to provide a justification for their continued reliance on a grand jury located outside of Florida. This practice of using a grand jury from a different jurisdiction to indict a defendant is not always straightforward.
