The Taliban’s Deployment of Suicide Bombers in Afghanistan’s⁢ Water Dispute with Iran

The Taliban has recently ⁢taken a concerning step in the ongoing dispute over water access with Iran. According ‌to Bloomberg, they⁤ have deployed hundreds of suicide bombers to Afghanistan’s border with Iran.

A source revealed to Bloomberg that thousands of Taliban troops, including trained suicide bombers, have been sent​ to the border since May. This move comes as‌ tensions rise between Iran and​ the Taliban over water from Afghanistan’s Helmand River,​ which Iran heavily relies on.

Back in 1973, Afghanistan agreed to provide a​ specific amount of water ‌from ‍the river to ​Iran. However, since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan after the​ Biden administration’s withdrawal in 2021, Iran claims that the new regime has reduced the water ‍supply.

With⁤ soaring temperatures in the Middle East‍ this summer,​ Iran’s frustration has grown due to the Taliban government’s failure to uphold⁢ the agreement. A border skirmish in May resulted in casualties on both ⁣sides,⁤ with at least two Iranian ‌troops and one Taliban fighter dead.

The Biden Administration’s Funding of ⁢the Taliban Government

Meanwhile,‍ the Biden administration continues‌ to ⁤provide financial support to the Taliban government. Despite the chaotic U.S. withdrawal in​ August 2021, which left behind billions of dollars worth of military equipment, more than $2.35 billion in taxpayer dollars have been⁤ sent to Afghanistan since the ⁣Taliban regained control.

During a congressional forum in California, Darin Hoover, the father of Darin ⁢T. Hoover who died in a terrorist suicide bombing at the Kabul airport, directly addressed Biden,​ saying, “Do what our ‍son did, be a grown-ass man—admit to your mistakes.”
