Poll: Abortion stance crucial for majority of voters.

The Importance of Abortion‍ Policies in Voting

A recent poll conducted by CNN reveals that the majority of voters consider‍ a political‍ candidate’s ‍stance⁤ on abortion⁢ to be a crucial⁢ factor when casting their vote. ‌In fact, 55% of respondents stated that a candidate’s abortion ⁤policies are⁣ among the⁣ key factors they consider. Additionally, 29% of participants mentioned that ‌they would only vote for a candidate who aligns ‍with their personal⁣ beliefs on abortion. ‍This⁣ brings the total ‌number of ⁤individuals who‌ prioritize a candidate’s stance on ‍abortion‍ to an impressive 84%.

A Shift ‌in Public Opinion

Interestingly, the remaining 16% of respondents‍ do not view abortion as a significant issue.‍ This ‌marks a record low‌ since ⁢CNN ⁢began⁣ asking this question in 1996. However, ⁢the poll indicates that⁤ public opinion on the Supreme Court’s reversal of ‌Roe v.‌ Wade remains‍ relatively unchanged compared to ‌last year’s results.

Views ‌on the Supreme Court’s Decision

According to⁣ the ⁤poll, 36% of voters agree with the high court’s ruling that there is ‌no‌ constitutional right⁣ to abortion, while 64% disagree with this opinion. Among‍ those who support the overturning of Roe⁤ v. Wade, 34% believe that politicians who oppose abortion should advocate for further nationwide ⁤restrictions. On the other hand, 66% believe ‌that politicians should leave this contentious issue up to the states.

It is worth noting that although a majority still favors state legislatures deciding ⁣on abortion restrictions, ⁣there ⁣has been a notable decrease in ‍this sentiment over the past ⁤year. Last July, ⁣80% ⁤of respondents⁣ believed that politicians should let states decide on abortion restrictions.

Concerns about Access to Abortion

Among those who ‌disapprove of the Supreme Court’s‌ ruling, a significant percentage feel that neither their⁢ state government (60%) nor the⁣ federal government ‍(78%) is doing enough to ensure access‌ to ⁢abortion.

These findings coincide‍ with Ohio’s ongoing ballot‍ measure, State Issue 1, which ⁣has‌ significant‌ implications for‍ the future⁣ of ⁢abortion in the state. If approved, this measure would make it more challenging‌ to pass future Ohio constitutional amendments related to abortion, as the majority needed for approval⁢ could be raised to 60% instead of the current 50% plus one person.

The CNN poll, conducted by SSRS‍ from July ⁢1-31, surveyed 1,279‌ U.S. adults. The margin of error for the poll is 3.7%.
