The House Republicans Expose Exploitation of ⁣CBP One⁢ App by Mexican Cartels

The House Republicans have recently brought attention to a new and concerning report regarding the exploitation of the CBP ⁣One app by Mexican cartels. This app, ‌developed by the Biden administration ​to streamline immigrant admission to the United States, has ‌become a target ⁢for criminal organizations.

During a congressional hearing near the⁢ Arizona border, Rep. Andy Biggs​ (R-AZ) delved into the details of the ⁤Washington Examiner’s Aug. 4 investigation. He revealed that these cartels have‌ found a way to override the app’s geofencing feature, allowing them to request appointments with U.S. customs officials from anywhere in the world. This process was originally intended to only be possible in northern Mexico.

Concerns Raised by House Republicans

Rep. Biggs expressed his concerns during his opening remarks, stating, “It is just reckless‍ disregard for law and order, and ‌ [President Joe Biden’s] implementation of open border policies… have caused the crisis that ​we ‌see on the border and in the country.”

He further highlighted the Washington Examiner report,‍ stating, “Here’s one concerning⁣ recent example that we have received. We have received⁣ reports of criminal cartels… taking advantage of Secretary Mayorkas’s open⁣ border policies. Cartels ‌now are reportedly selling virtual private network (VPN) services to migrants… to ignore the geofencing system before they’ve reached northern Mexico.”

Exploitation of CBP ‌One App

The Washington Examiner conducted a review of unclassified internal CBP documents⁣ and communications, revealing that the Mexican‌ government has allowed immigrants entering the ⁢country from Guatemala to continue their journey to the U.S. border if they have ‌obtained an appointment on the CBP One phone app.

The Mexican government’s National Immigration ‌Institute (INM)⁤ issued an order to its immigration ⁢officials in the southern state of Chiapas, instructing them to turn away all non-Mexican ⁤citizens who do not have a CBP One ⁣app appointment. Officers have ⁣set up checkpoints and made arrests at these encounters.

However, cartels have found a way to ⁢exploit the app and benefit⁢ from Mexico’s policy. They are selling immigrants VPN services, which provide them with an internet connection that routes through a private service. This allows‍ the immigrants to bypass the app’s geofencing ⁢system, making it appear‌ as if they are in northern Mexico when they are actually elsewhere.

Despite Congress being on its annual recess break in ‌August,‍ five GOP ⁣members of⁢ Congress attended the hearing to address these concerns. Rep. Biggs criticized Democrats for their absence.
