Biden dispatches military aid to assist Hawaii fire emergency.
President Biden Orders Military Aid to Maui to Combat Hawaii Fires
In a swift response to the devastating wildfires in Maui, President Joe Biden has taken action by ordering military aid to be sent to the island. The White House issued a statement on Wednesday, announcing that “all available Federal assets on the Islands” are being deployed to assist in extinguishing the fire, conducting search and rescue missions, and evacuating Hawaiian citizens.
The U.S. Coast Guard and Navy Third Fleets are actively supporting response and rescue efforts, while the Hawaiian National Guard and the Army have provided Chinook Helicopters and Black Hawk Helicopters, respectively.
Biden Expresses Condolences and Gratitude
President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden expressed their deepest condolences to the families who lost loved ones in the Maui wildfires. They also extended their prayers to those who have witnessed the destruction of their homes, businesses, and communities. The President commended the brave firefighters and first responders who are fearlessly risking their lives to save others.
Furthermore, the Department of Transportation is utilizing commercial airlines to evacuate tourists from the island, while the Department of the Interior and Department of Agriculture are actively involved in post-fire recovery efforts, as stated in the President’s official statement.
President Biden urged all residents to adhere to evacuation orders, follow the instructions of first responders and officials, and remain vigilant.
Late Wednesday, Maui officials reported the devastating impact of the wildfires, with at least 36 known deaths, approximately 20 injuries, and nearly 300 structures destroyed. The natural disaster was triggered by strong winds from Hurricane Dora, combined with the dry conditions on the Hawaiian island.
