Zelensky dismisses military enlistment office chiefs due to corruption claims.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to Dismiss Regional Military Enlistment Office Heads Over Allegations of Abuse of Power, Fraud, and Corruption
In a bold move, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Friday that he will be removing every single head of the country’s regional military enlistment offices. These dismissals come in the wake of serious allegations of abuse of power, fraud, and corruption.
“We are dismissing all regional ‘military commissars.’ This system should be run by people who know exactly what war is and why cynicism and bribery in times of war constitute treason,” Zelensky stated.
The decision to remove these officials was made after a recent inspection revealed shocking findings. Some military officials were found to have illegally obtained cash or cryptocurrency, while others were involved in the illegal transportation of individuals eligible for military service across the border. The inspection, which began in June, was prompted by journalists uncovering that the former head of the Odesa Oblast military enlistment office had purchased property in Spain worth $4.5 million, according to the Kyiv Independent.
As a result of the inspection, a total of 112 criminal cases have been opened, and 33 individuals have been charged.
“Every ‘military commissar’ against whom there is a criminal investigation will be held accountable. Absolutely fair. In full,” Zelensky emphasized.
Zelensky plans to replace the dismissed commissars with officers who have firsthand experience on the battlefield. The selection process for the replacements will be carefully reviewed by the country’s Security Service.
This move follows Zelensky’s previous actions earlier this year, where he fired one of his top generals and numerous other officials resigned or were dismissed due to corruption allegations. Many of these officials were accused of leaving the country and living lavish lifestyles while Ukraine faced the Russian invasion.
Meanwhile, President Joe Biden has requested Congress to approve over $24 billion in aid to Ukraine as part of a $40 billion package. This request includes $20 billion more for Ukraine than what was initially proposed to address the ongoing border crisis, as reported by POLITICO.

The United States, being the largest supporter of Ukraine’s war effort, has recently come under scrutiny for failing to track its shipments of weapons and military equipment to Ukraine. A report from the inspector general for the Department of Defense revealed that criminal groups in Ukraine have obtained military equipment for nefarious purposes, with the origin of the equipment remaining unclear due to heavy redaction in the report.
Furthermore, a recent CNN poll indicates that a majority of American voters now oppose providing more funding to Ukraine in the ongoing conflict with Russia. However, President Biden has repeatedly stated that the U.S. will support Ukraine for “as long as it takes.”
