16-year-old girl dies at cheer camp after coach discovers her unresponsive – her final post: ‘His plan, not mine.’

A Tragic Loss:⁢ Texas High School Student Dies at ‌Cheer Camp

A heartbreaking incident⁣ occurred⁢ at a cheer ⁣camp in College Station, Texas, ‌where a 16-year-old student, ‍Callie Marie Mitchell, tragically lost her life due to a ⁣medical complication. According to KHOU-TV, Mitchell was found unresponsive in her bed ‌at the camp and was⁢ later pronounced dead on August 1.

Mitchell’s mother, Michelle Donahue, recalled the moment she realized something was wrong. The coach called‌ and asked, “Hey, does Callie have‌ a problem waking up ⁤in the morning?” Donahue⁤ replied, “No, never.”

The coach immediately performed CPR⁣ on‍ Mitchell until she was airlifted to Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston. Donahue expressed her⁤ gratitude towards the ‌coach, saying, “If it ‌wasn’t for [Coach] Eberly, we‍ would have never had the⁣ chance⁢ to say⁤ goodbye.”

Scott⁣ Donahue, Mitchell’s father, believes ‌that his daughter suffered cardiac arrest ‍due to Long QT syndrome, a heart signaling disorder described by the Mayo Clinic as a condition that can cause fast, ⁣chaotic heartbeats, fainting, and ‍seizures.

In light‌ of this tragic event, Mitchell’s parents issued a warning to all parents, ⁣urging them to ⁣include an ⁢electrocardiogram (EKG) in their children’s annual physicals. An EKG ⁤can‌ help detect underlying heart conditions that may otherwise go unnoticed.

Described as ⁣a compassionate ⁢and devoted individual, Mitchell⁣ had a strong connection to her ‍faith. ⁢She attended St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Houston and found solace in her‍ beliefs. Her‍ obituary highlighted her unwavering devotion and her habit of making wishes ⁢at 11:11 a.m., believing in the magic of the moment.

Despite the tragedy, Mitchell’s parents want her to be remembered for her unwavering faith. They shared‌ her last social media post, which⁣ read, “His plan, over ‌mine.” Michelle Donahue emphasized that above all, Mitchell would want others to have faith in God⁤ and know that they are redeemed.

This devastating incident serves as a reminder to prioritize the health and well-being of our⁢ children. Let us honor Callie Marie Mitchell’s memory by taking proactive steps to ensure the safety of our‍ loved⁢ ones.
