The Maria Lanakila church has a rich history, dating back to 1846, before Hawaii became an American territory or state. Its name translates to “Our Lady of Victory” in the Hawaiian language.
While the church building remains unscathed, the wildfires have caused significant damage and loss of life. The fires have primarily affected Maui, with some fires also reported on the Big Island.
