RFK Jr. asserts support for abortion ban beyond first trimester.
Democratic 2024 Presidential Hopeful Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Takes a Stand on Abortion
During a recent campaign stop in Iowa, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a potential candidate for the 2024 presidential election, made his stance on abortion crystal clear. As he attended the State Fair alongside other presidential hopefuls, Kennedy engaged in a Q&A session with NBC News, where the topic of abortion was brought up.
“I believe a decision to abort a child should be up to the women during the first three months of life,” Kennedy told the outlet.
Kennedy further explained that he supports a federal ban on abortion at 15 or 21 weeks, once the child becomes viable outside the womb. He emphasized his belief in medical freedom and the importance of individuals being able to make their own choices.
In the race for the Democratic presidential nomination, Kennedy finds himself competing against President Joe Biden and author Marianne Williamson. Biden recently marked the anniversary of the Supreme Court’s ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which removed federal protection of the procedure. He listed the administration’s efforts to protect access to reproductive health throughout the year. On the other hand, Williamson pledges on her website to fiercely resist any attempts to restrict or diminish the reproductive rights granted by Roe v. Wade.
A recent survey revealed that in a hypothetical Democratic primary race, 64% of respondents would choose Biden, while 13% expressed support for Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Marianne Williamson garnered 10% of the support, and 12% remained undecided.
Despite his late father’s political legacy as a senator and presidential candidate, this is Kennedy’s first foray into the world of politics. Meanwhile, Williamson previously ran for office in 2020.
