Zuckerberg dismisses Musk’s cage fight idea as unserious.
Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk’s Cage Match Unlikely to Happen, Says Meta CEO
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently stated that the highly anticipated cage match between himself and Tesla CEO Elon Musk is unlikely to take place. According to Zuckerberg, Musk doesn’t seem to be taking the challenge seriously.
The rivalry between the two tech moguls began in late June when Musk tweeted that he was “up for a cage fight.” Zuckerberg quickly responded, expressing his interest and requesting a location for the match.
Although the date of the cage match has yet to be announced, Musk has mentioned that a live-stream of the event will be hosted on Twitter, the social media platform he recently rebranded as “X,” and Meta.

Despite Zuckerberg’s efforts to set a date for the fight and UFC President Dana White’s agreement to make it official and donate the proceeds to charity, Musk has been uncooperative. Zuckerberg expressed his frustration, stating that Musk won’t confirm a date, claims to need surgery, and now wants to do a practice round in his backyard instead.
Zuckerberg took to his social media site, Threads, to address the situation, saying, “I think we can all agree Elon isn’t serious, and it’s time to move on.” He added, “If Elon ever gets serious about a real date and official event, he knows how to reach me. Otherwise, time to move on. I’m going to focus on competing with people who take the sport seriously.”
Musk, who is also the founder of SpaceX, has not responded to Zuckerberg’s comments. He previously mentioned that he underwent an MRI on his right shoulder blade, which requires minor surgery. However, he assured that his recovery would only take a few months.
Musk also revealed that the fight would take place in an “epic location” in Italy, with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni agreeing to the venue. He proposed that the fight be organized by the foundations of both competitors, with all proceeds going to Italy’s veterans and pediatric hospitals.
In response, Zuckerberg questioned the choice of platform for organizing the fight, suggesting the use of a more reliable platform that can raise money for charity.
It’s worth noting that Zuckerberg is trained in mixed martial arts and recently participated in a Brazilian jiu-jitsu tournament. On the other hand, Musk has shown a preference for World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and accepted training from UFC fighter Georges St-Pierre.
The rivalry between Zuckerberg and Musk dates back to 2016 when Zuckerberg expressed disappointment over SpaceX’s failure to launch a Facebook satellite for internet connectivity in Africa. Despite Musk’s subsequent apology, the rivalry has only grown stronger over the years.
UFC President Dana White has described the potential cage match between the two tech billionaires as the “biggest fight ever in the history of the world,” predicting that it would break all pay-per-view records and raise hundreds of millions of dollars for charity.
