Hunter Biden’s lawyer claims DOJ sought plea deal and may still be interested.

Hunter Biden’s Lawyer Hints at ⁢Plea Deal to Avoid Trial

Hunter Biden’s lawyer, Abbe Lowell, revealed in a recent CBS News interview that Justice Department prosecutors⁤ have expressed a desire to spare President Biden’s son from standing trial‍ on tax charges. Lowell suggested that they may still be open to⁢ working out a plea deal to prevent⁤ Biden from⁢ facing a trial.

“We were trying‍ to avoid [a trial] all along,” stated Lowell. “And so were the ‌prosecutors who came forward to us and were the ones to say, ‘Can there ⁤be a resolution short ⁤of a prosecution?’ So they wanted ⁣it and maybe ‌they still do want it.”

Initially, Biden and the DOJ had agreed to a plea deal that would ⁣have allowed ‌the first son to⁢ evade prison time for tax and gun charges. However, U.S. District Judge Maryellen Noreika rejected the proposed plea deal⁤ last month, citing concerns about its legality and the extent of immunity it offered Biden.

In a recent court filing, Biden’s lawyers accused the prosecutors of reneging on⁤ the plea deal, which came just days after the prosecutors hinted at the possibility of a criminal trial for⁤ Biden.

Despite these developments,⁤ Lowell remains optimistic, stating in the CBS interview ⁣that a trial for the first son is “not inevitable.”

The case has become a highly contentious political issue, with Republicans in Congress raising the specter ‍of impeaching President Joe Biden over his son’s business ⁢dealings. They also accuse ‍the Department of Justice of granting Hunter Biden a “sweetheart deal.”
