Andrew McCarthy criticizes the Hunter Biden special counsel as a “sham” designed to maintain control.

Former‍ Federal Prosecutor⁣ Dismisses Hunter Biden Investigation as a⁣ “Sham”

Former federal prosecutor Andrew McCarthy has ⁤labeled the special counsel investigation‌ into ⁢Hunter ‍Biden as a “sham.” McCarthy, known for leading the prosecution of terrorists involved in the 1993 World Trade Center attack, criticized‌ Attorney General Merrick Garland’s decision to appoint Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss as special counsel, stating ⁢that it violated Justice Department ⁢guidelines.

“This is a sham. There is no special counsel investigation,‍ and there is no Biden investigation,” ‌McCarthy declared‌ during an appearance on Fox News. ‌He emphasized that a special counsel should be an independent lawyer brought in from outside ‌the United States government, not someone from within ‍the Justice⁢ Department or ‌the government itself.

McCarthy ⁣further argued that the Biden Justice Department is using the special counsel ⁤appointment to⁢ maintain ⁣control over an investigation they are not actively pursuing. He claimed that the department strategically allowed the statute of limitations to run out on certain charges, effectively preventing‍ any‌ indictments.

Appointment ‌of Special Counsel Raises Skepticism

Attorney General Garland’s announcement⁢ of David Weiss’ appointment as special counsel has raised skepticism among Republicans who have long called ‍for an⁤ independent ‍investigation into Hunter ‌Biden. Republicans are concerned that ⁣Weiss, as a ⁤top official in the Biden Justice Department, may be shielded from ⁣testifying to Congress about ‍his investigation.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy expressed his concerns on Twitter, stating, “This action by Biden’s DOJ cannot be used to obstruct congressional investigations or whitewash the Biden family corruption. If Weiss negotiated ‍the sweetheart deal that couldn’t get approved, how can he be trusted as a Special Counsel?”

Biden’s defense attorney,⁤ Abbe Lowell, appeared on CBS News and argued that after a five-year investigation, it is unlikely that Weiss will uncover any new evidence. Lowell questioned any potential‌ changes to Weiss’ conclusion, stating that it would raise doubts about the integrity of the process.
