Here’s how it works: food ⁣stamp payments‍ are distributed between August 1st and August 20th, following ⁢a consistent schedule each month. Known as the Basic Food program in Washington, SNAP benefits are assigned based on the date recipients applied for assistance.⁤ If you’ve qualified for SNAP, the approval letter will⁢ provide you with the specific dates.

Eligibility and Benefits

To be eligible for SNAP, Washington residents must meet certain income and household requirements. The amount of benefits you ⁢can receive depends⁢ on the size of your household:

  • Household of one: Up to $281
  • Household of three: Up to $740
  • Household⁢ of five: Up to $1,116

On average, each household member receives $168 per month. For households larger than eight, there’s a maximum of $211‌ per additional person.

Keep in⁢ mind that your gross monthly income should generally be at ‌or below 130%⁤ of the federal ⁣poverty‌ line.‌ Here are the income limits for different household sizes:

  • Household of‍ one: $1,945 per month
  • Household of three: ‌$3,299 per‌ month
  • Household of five:‌ $4,652 per ⁣month

Using Your Benefits

Once approved, ⁣households receive their Basic Food benefits through electronic benefits transfer (EBT)‍ cards. These cards can be used at participating grocery and ⁣convenience stores. With your SNAP EBT card, you can purchase a variety ⁢of eligible groceries, including meat, poultry, fish products, ⁣dairy items, breads, cereals, and more.

It’s estimated that around 18% of Washington’s ⁣population, equivalent to 310,900 people, currently receive‌ food stamps according to the Center on Budget and⁣ Policy Priorities.

So don’t miss out! Make sure to ⁣utilize your SNAP benefits before the month of August comes⁢ to an end. Click here to read more ‌from the Washington Examiner.
