Hottest July in 174 years recorded on Earth, says new NOAA study.

Earth Breaks Record with‌ Hottest July⁣ in 174 Years

According to a new study‌ by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Earth has broken a new record⁣ with its hottest July ⁢in ‌174 years. In fact, ⁢it is likely that July 2023 was the hottest month ever⁣ documented. The study, published on‍ Monday, reveals that the planet’s average global surface temperature ⁢was ‍approximately 2 degrees Fahrenheit‍ above the 20th-century average, making ⁤it the warmest July⁣ in NOAA’s record.

The⁢ study also highlights that July⁤ 2023 marked ⁤the 47th-consecutive‍ July and the 533rd-consecutive month with temperatures above the 20th-century ⁤average. Furthermore,⁤ it is virtually certain that the year 2023 will rank among the five-warmest years on record, ⁤with⁤ a nearly 50% probability of being the warmest on record.

Record-Breaking Climate Events

Not only did July 2023 ‍set a record for⁣ the hottest⁣ month, but it also witnessed ‌the lowest⁣ global July sea ice⁤ extent coverage on record. The⁢ coverage was about 470,000 square miles less than the previous record low from July 2019. Additionally, the ‌Antarctic⁣ sea ice coverage ranked lowest on ‌record for the third consecutive ⁤month, running 1 million square miles below the 1991-2020 average.

These alarming findings come at a time when⁣ states across the U.S. are grappling with record-breaking⁢ temperatures and natural‌ disasters ‍like wildfires. Arizona, Hawaii, ‌New⁤ Mexico, Maine, and⁤ Florida have been particularly⁢ affected. In‌ response, President Joe Biden has⁢ expressed his intention to declare a climate emergency, ⁢which‌ would grant him the necessary powers to combat climate ⁣change.
