Police say South Texas is becoming a prime location for heavily armed cartel gangsters to cross.

Elite Law Enforcement Captures⁢ Heavily⁣ Armed Mexican Cartel Members at the Border

In a thrilling operation, elite federal and state law enforcement agencies successfully apprehended two heavily armed members of a notorious Mexican cartel. These individuals had boldly crossed the Rio Grande and ventured into Texas, making this particular area a hotbed for militaristic smugglers.

The joint operation, conducted by the U.S. Border Patrol’s‌ Tactical‌ Unit, the Texas Department of Public Safety’s⁣ Rangers Special Operations ⁤Group, and the Texas Game Warden, culminated in the ⁣arrest of the unidentified men on Thursday, Aug.‍ 10. Their presence had been ‍detected on surveillance cameras several days prior.

Collaboration for Public Safety and National Security

“There is no greater public safety⁢ and ⁤national security threat than the Mexican drug cartels, who have exploited security ⁢vulnerabilities due to an‌ unsecured international border,” emphasized a Texas DPS spokesman. “This‍ joint effort highlights‌ the importance of collaborating with local, county, state, and federal agencies for one⁣ common goal — keeping our state and country safe.”

According to the DPS official, the two men‍ initially crossed the river with another individual into Fronton, Texas, before being captured on U.S. cameras. While all three men returned to Mexico, at least two of them made their way back into ‍the United States. This region⁢ has become a popular temporary hideout for cartel members seeking refuge from the Mexican military’s ⁢operations against them.

A High-Stakes Operation

Swiftly ‌responding to the second sighting of the armed men⁣ on Aug. 10, the three⁣ law enforcement agencies sprang into action. The Texas Game Warden, aided by his canine partner, located ‌one of the concealed long guns in the water. Meanwhile, the Texas ⁣Rangers discovered the two men hidden in ‍the brush and handed them over to Border Patrol.‍ The‍ next step may involve referral to the U.S. attorney’s office ⁣for potential federal charges.

Members of the Northeast ⁤Cartel, also known as the Cartel del Noreste, the two individuals were part of a transnational criminal ⁢organization involved in the illegal movement of people and drugs across the ⁤border. Surprisingly, they claimed⁤ to be unaware that they had entered the United States, firmly believing they were ⁣still in Mexico.

The firearms seized during the operation included an M4 fully automatic rifle and an AK-47, along with ammunition capable of ⁣penetrating bulletproof vests. The DPS spokesman emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating, “These guys meant business. They ⁣could have done some harm.”

A Rare Encounter

Earlier this month, a⁤ rare incident occurred when a Texas law enforcement drone ⁤spotted a human smuggler armed⁣ with a longarm. This individual was ‌seen guiding⁤ a ‌group of migrants across the Rio ‌Grande and towards the ⁤U.S. border. It marked the⁢ first time that state police in Eagle‌ Pass had observed a smuggler carrying a firearm while leading people through the water.

These recent events serve as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in securing the border and‌ combating the activities of dangerous criminal organizations.
