Hillary Clinton and Maddow share a laugh as Donald Trump faces indictment in Fulton County.
Hillary Clinton Reacts to Latest Indictment Against Donald Trump
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton expressed her “profound sadness” while discussing the recent indictment against Donald Trump. In an interview with Rachel Maddow on MSNBC, Clinton shared her feelings about the grand jury investigation, all while maintaining a sense of humor.
“Well, it’s hard to believe, I don’t feel any satisfaction. I feel great, you know, just great profound sadness that we have a former president who has been indicted for so many charges that went right to the heart of whether or not our democracy would survive,”
Indictment in Georgia
An Atlanta-based grand jury has indicted former President Trump on state charges related to his attempts to overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia. Prior to the release of the 98-page indictment, Clinton spoke with Maddow, emphasizing that her satisfaction lies in the fact that the justice system is working.
“I don’t feel any satisfaction, but the only satisfaction is that the system is working, that all of the efforts by Donald Trump, his allies, his enablers, to try to silence the truth, to try to undermine democracy have been brought into the light, and justice is being pursued.”
Clinton highlighted the threats made by Trump and his allies towards state and local officials responsible for conducting elections. She also mentioned their alleged interference with voting machines, which ironically revealed their own breach of security.
As Maddow introduced Clinton on the show, both shared a laugh, acknowledging the unexpected circumstances surrounding the indictment.
“I can’t believe this.”
“I didn’t think it would be under these circumstances,” Clinton replied with a smile, discussing Trump’s fourth indictment in less than five months.
Clinton Reflects on the Indictment
The Fulton County grand jury indicted 19 defendants, including Trump, following an intense investigation into his alleged attempts to undermine the 2020 election in Georgia. The 98-page indictment was unsealed late Monday evening.
Clinton, who ran against Trump in the 2016 presidential election, shared a friendly moment with Maddow at the end of the interview, despite the interruption caused by the breaking news of the indictment.
“I really appreciate you being here tonight, I apologize for it being in the middle of this news,” Maddow said.
“Yeah, I never would have guessed it, but here we are,” Clinton replied. “I was going to say, just tell me when to show up the next time; we’ll see what he’s charged with then.”
Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has been leading the investigation into Trump’s actions. The investigation began in January 2021, and a grand jury was convened in May 2022. The grand jury’s final report, released earlier this year, included evidence from 75 witnesses, including election workers, technical experts, and individuals alleging election fraud.
