Attorneys for ex-president Donald Trump deem Monday’s events ‘shocking and absurd’ following his indictment.

Attorneys Blast “Shocking and Absurd” Indictment of ⁢Former⁤ President Donald Trump

Attorneys‍ for former President Donald Trump have strongly criticized the events that unfolded on Monday, leading ⁤up‍ to and including his ⁣indictment ⁣in Fulton County, Georgia. ‌They described‍ the situation as “shocking and absurd.”

Indictment Controversy

Attorneys Drew ‍Findling, Jennifer Little, and Marissa ‌Goldberg expressed their dismay over the release of an apparent indictment, which Georgia officials later claimed was “fictitious.” This was followed by the‍ release of a real ‍indictment⁤ against Trump and 18 others on racketeering⁢ charges ⁢related to ⁣the 2020 election. The attorneys argue that the premature release of the document forced Fulton ⁣County District Attorney Fani Willis ‍to rush the indictment process.

Flawed and Unconstitutional

In a statement‌ released early Tuesday, the attorneys criticized the indictment process as “flawed and unconstitutional.” However, they expressed their‌ intention to conduct a ⁢detailed ⁢review of ⁣the charging document.

“This one-sided grand ‍jury presentation relied on witnesses who harbor their own⁢ personal and political interests—some of whom ran campaigns touting their efforts against the accused⁣ and/or profited from book deals and⁢ employment opportunities‍ as a result.⁢ We look forward to a detailed review of this indictment ⁣which is undoubtedly just as flawed and unconstitutional as this entire process has been,” the statement said.

In a late-night press conference, District Attorney Fani Willis accused Trump and his⁣ co-conspirators of attempting to illegally seize‌ the presidential term⁤ of office starting on January 20th, 2021.

Trump, along ⁣with attorneys Rudy Giuliani, John Eastman, and ⁢Sidney Powell, as well as former Trump chief of staff⁢ Mark Meadows, were indicted on racketeering charges.⁢ The charging document also mentioned approximately 30 unnamed alleged co-conspirators.

This marks the fourth ⁤indictment against Trump this year, with previous charges in Manhattan, Florida, and Washington, D.C. These indictments⁤ relate to various alleged offenses, including falsification ⁤of business records, mishandling of classified documents, and attempts to overturn the 2020 election.

Despite these legal challenges, Trump remains the front-runner‍ in the 2024 Republican presidential primary, leading all other candidates by ⁢nearly 40% according to the RealClearPolitics polling average. If he secures the GOP nomination, ‌it could set ⁤the stage for a rematch against President Joe Biden, the current⁢ front-runner⁣ on the Democratic ‍side.
