Trevian Kutti, ex-Kanye West publicist, faces charges in Trump Georgia case.
A Chicago Publicist Indicted for Alleged Election Fraud Scheme
A Chicago-based publicist who has worked with renowned artists R. Kelly and Kanye West, now known as Ye, finds herself among the 19 individuals indicted on Monday. The charges stem from their alleged involvement in a scheme to pressure an election worker in Fulton County, Georgia, into falsely admitting to committing election fraud in 2020.
Trevian Kutti: A Publicist with a Controversial Background
Trevian Kutti, the publicist in question, has garnered attention for her pro-Trump messages on social media. While she recently worked as an Illinois marijuana lobbyist, she now faces three charges related to the alleged scheme. These charges include conspiring to commit solicitation of false statements and writings, influencing witnesses, and violating Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act.
Reactions and Social Media Posts
Following the announcement of the indictment by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, Kutti took to social media to share her thoughts. She posted a screenshot of a TMZ article highlighting her past association with Kanye West and also shared a pro-Trump meme, which aligns with her previous social media uploads.
Shortly after the indictment, Kutti posted a clip from a Dave Chappelle skit on X (formerly known as Twitter) with the caption: “TRUMP MUHF***N 2024.”
The Alleged Scheme and Involvement with Ruby Freeman
Kutti’s involvement in the alleged scheme began when she was recruited by Harrison Floyd, the leader of Black Voices for Trump and a co-defendant in the indictment. She traveled to Atlanta, where she was tasked with reaching out to Ruby Freeman, a local election worker. According to the indictment, Kutti falsely claimed to be a “crisis manager” and approached Freeman’s neighbor for assistance.
During her meeting with Freeman, Kutti allegedly asked her to confess to voter fraud, echoing the allegations made by Trump after his loss to Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election.
Denial of Association with Kanye West
After Freeman’s accusations against Kutti became public in 2021, a spokesperson for Kanye West, Pierre Rougier, clarified that Kutti was not associated with the rapper or any of his enterprises at the time of the alleged incident with Freeman. It is worth noting that Kanye West himself ran as a candidate in the 2020 election, appearing on the ballots in nine states but failing to meet the requirements in most others.
Additional Defendants and Charges
Stephen Cliffgard Lee, a 70-year-old Lutheran minister at Living Word Lutheran Church, is also facing the same charges as Floyd and Kutti in connection to the alleged incident with Freeman. The trio is accused of conspiring to solicit false statements and writings from Freeman, aiming to secure her testimony in favor of Trump and falsely admit to election fraud.
The Indictment and Trump’s Response
A grand jury returned a 41-count indictment against 19 individuals on Monday night. Former President Donald Trump, who has faced multiple legal challenges, referred to the indictment as ”a continuation of the greatest and longest-running Witch Hunt in American history.” This marks Trump’s fifth indictment in four criminal cases this year.
The Washington Examiner has reached out to Kutti, Lee, Floyd, and Rougier for their responses to the charges.
