San Diego man brutally stabbed 40+ times in a ‘random’ attack, loses life.
An Unprovoked Attack: East Village Resident Pleads Not Guilty to Murder Charges
An East Village resident, Maxwell Thomas Logan, pleaded not guilty on Aug. 14 to murder and false imprisonment charges. The shocking incident involved the alleged stabbing of Andrew Holland, a 38-year-old man, who was attacked in his own apartment. The attack, described as “random and unprovoked,” left the victim dead from 40 to 50 stab wounds to his head and upper body.
The gruesome discovery was made by Mr. Holland’s roommate, who called 911 after finding him lifeless in their 14th Street residence, just four blocks away from San Diego City College. Lieutenant Steve Shebloski revealed that the assailant entered the apartment through an unlocked or open front door, launching the brutal assault. The motive behind the attack remains unknown at this early stage of the investigation.

According to Deputy District Attorney Miriam Hurtado, Maxwell Logan and Andrew Holland lived in the same complex but were not acquainted. The front door of Mr. Holland’s unit was propped open when the assailant entered and launched the unprovoked attack. Deputy District Attorney Hurtado described the assault as “callous rage.”
During the investigation, a woman in another apartment flagged down officers, expressing fear and passing notes to them. She informed the police that her boyfriend, Mr. Logan, was acting violently and strangely. Additionally, a blood trail was discovered, leading from Mr. Holland’s apartment to Mr. Logan’s.
Officers promptly checked on the woman’s welfare and located Mr. Logan, who had blood on his person and minor injuries consistent with a confrontation involving a cutting or stabbing object. Mr. Logan was arrested at the scene and is currently in custody without bail. If convicted of all charges, he could face up to 28 years to life in state prison.
This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of personal safety and vigilance, even within the confines of one’s own home.
