Kelly Ayotte, GOP candidate, ahead of Democratic rivals in NH gubernatorial race: Poll.
Former Republican Sen. Kelly Ayotte Leads in New Hampshire Gubernatorial Race
Exciting news in the world of politics! Former Republican Sen. Kelly Ayotte is currently leading the pack in the 2024 New Hampshire gubernatorial race. According to a recent survey conducted by Emerson College Polling, Ayotte is not only ahead of her Democratic opponents but also dominating the GOP primary field.
Ayotte’s Lead in the Democratic Race
In the survey, Ayotte is shown to be leading Democratic Manchester Mayor Joyce Craig by a margin of 46% to 37%. Additionally, she is also ahead of Democratic state Executive Councilor Cinde Warmington, with a lead of 47% to 34%. These numbers demonstrate Ayotte’s strong position and popularity among voters.
Strong Support in the Republican Primary
Not only is Ayotte leading in the Democratic race, but she is also dominating the Republican primary. The survey reveals that she is ahead of former state Senate President Chuck Morse by a significant margin of 45% to 9%. No other candidates in the GOP primary field received more than 5% of the support.
Spencer Kimball, the executive director of Emerson College Polling, believes that Ayotte’s popularity is bolstered by the high approval rating of current Governor Chris Sununu, a fellow Republican. Kimball states, “The high approval rating of current Governor Chris Sununu could impact a potential race between Ayotte and Craig or Warmington, as voters generally approve of their Republican Governor.”
Room for Change
While Ayotte is currently leading, there is still room for the race to change. According to the survey, approximately 17% of voters remain undecided. This means that the dynamics of the New Hampshire Governor’s race could shift as more voters make up their minds.
The Cook Political Report has already adjusted its assessment of the race, moving it from “solid Republican” to “toss-up” after Governor Sununu announced he would not seek another term. However, Sununu’s high approval rating may work in favor of the GOP, potentially securing the seat for Ayotte.
Trump’s Struggle in New Hampshire
While Ayotte is enjoying a strong position in the gubernatorial race, former President Donald Trump is facing challenges in the Granite State. In a head-to-head matchup, the survey shows President Joe Biden leading Trump by a margin of 48% to 41%. It’s worth noting that Trump lost New Hampshire in both the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections.
Despite his previous losses, Trump remains the GOP front-runner in the presidential primary. However, the survey also indicates that both Biden and Trump are leading their respective party primaries in New Hampshire.
