Katie Britt faces pressure to back Trump’s 2024 bid despite neutrality vow.

Sen. Katie Britt (R-AL) Under Pressure to Endorse Trump’s 2024 Bid

Sen. ‍Katie Britt (R-AL) is facing mounting⁣ pressure to ⁣endorse former President Donald Trump’s 2024 bid before the Republican presidential nomination is secured. Supporters of the⁣ former president, who is currently leading in ⁣primary polls,⁣ have recently criticized the freshman senator for remaining neutral until the general election. Britt, a rising ⁢star in the GOP, is the only member of Alabama’s congressional delegation who has not publicly supported Trump in the 2024 primary.

Neutrality ⁤Pledge and Reversal

Britt, 41, ‍made ⁤a pledge ⁢of neutrality last year when ⁢she joined the Republican National Committee’s Advisory Council. RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel had requested that council members refrain from involvement in ⁤the 2024 presidential primary process in order to join. However, the committee spokesperson confirmed that McDaniel reversed⁢ this decision earlier this year.

“When we launched the Republican Party Advisory Council to help us chart the ‌best path forward to win in 2024, we asked members to remain neutral in the Republican presidential primary,” RNC spokesman Keith‌ Schipper said in a statement. “Now that we’re in‍ the advanced stages of the race, all members of the council are‌ welcome ⁢to continue their work regardless ‍of whether they are backing a Republican presidential candidate or not, to help us make Joe Biden a one-term president,” he added.

While some council members, such as Reps. Carlos⁣ Gimenez⁤ (R-FL) and John James (R-MI), have since ⁣endorsed ⁣Trump, Britt ⁤has chosen to maintain her‌ neutrality. Her spokesperson‌ emphasized that she respects the decisions made by other council members and remains committed to keeping ⁣her word.

Criticism⁤ and Defense

Trump allies ⁣have taken notice of Britt’s ⁣position and have‍ begun criticizing her for not endorsing the former president. Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, for example, claimed on social media that there‌ is “no⁣ legitimate excuse” for Britt to be the only federal elected official from Alabama not endorsing Trump.

However, Steve Bannon, a close Trump ally and former executive at Breitbart, ⁢defended Britt, stating that her endorsement should be ‌strategically timed ⁣to have the greatest impact in defeating Joe Biden.

“Katie Britt is politically savvy and a fighter for the America First‍ agenda,” ⁣Bannon said. ‌”I think it’s crucial – given her unique perspective, profile, and platform – that her endorsement is rolled⁤ out when it⁣ will make the biggest impact⁣ to defeat Joe Biden.”

Britt’s spokesperson brushed off ‍the criticism, highlighting her‌ warm relationship with President‍ Trump and their recent⁤ conversation. The⁢ spokesperson also mentioned that Britt’s recovery prevented her from attending an ⁤event where Trump delivered a well-received speech.

Overall, the pressure for Britt to endorse Trump’s 2024 bid continues to grow, but she remains committed to her neutrality ‍pledge and is strategically⁤ considering the timing of‌ her endorsement.
