Beloved Broadway Actor Chris Peluso Passes Away at 40
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Chris Peluso, a renowned actor in numerous Broadway and London productions. Peluso, who had just celebrated his 40th birthday in July, left behind a legacy that will be remembered by theater enthusiasts around the world.
No specific cause of death has been disclosed, as reported by Today. However, it was revealed that Peluso had taken a break from his acting career to seek treatment for a psychiatric disorder.
Peluso’s talent and versatility were evident in his various roles on Broadway. He became a renowned understudy, covering significant characters in productions such as the Tony-winning revival of “Assassins,” Elton John’s ”Lestat,” and “Beautiful The Carole King Musical,” where he portrayed three leading male roles.
His contributions to the theater community were not limited to Broadway. According to Playbill, Peluso was a beloved co-star and collaborator in many productions, including “Mamma Mia!” and various touring companies of “Wicked.”
Peluso’s talent also shone in London, where he took on leading roles in productions such as “The Woman in White,” “Death Takes a Holiday,” “Show Boat,” “Miss Saigon,” and a U.K. tour of “Funny Girl.”
The University of Michigan’s musical theater department, where Peluso attended, paid tribute to him on Instagram. They described him as a loving, charismatic, and divinely gifted individual, expressing their heartfelt condolences to his family.

A GoFundMe campaign in 2022 shed light on Peluso’s absence from the theater scene. Organizers explained that he suffered from schizoaffective disorder, which caused debilitating paranoia, preventing him from performing in recent years.
The campaign, which raised over $25,000, allowed Peluso to seek treatment in the United States. In an update, Peluso expressed his gratitude to the donors and shared that he had completed inpatient treatment, enabling him to resume work and auditions.
Peluso’s journey serves as a reminder of the silent struggles faced by many individuals with mental illness. In his own words, he hoped that his story would raise awareness and encourage kindness towards one another.
Chris Peluso is survived by his wife, Jessica Gomes, and their two young children, Aria Li Gomes-Peluso and Caio Lian Gomes-Peluso, as reported by Playbill.
