Conservatives divided over Trump’s debate refusal.
Former President Donald Trump Faces Mixed Reactions After Opting Out of Primary Debates
Conservatives have been buzzing with mixed reactions since former President Donald Trump announced that he will not be participating in the Republican Party’s primary debates. Trump’s decision has sparked a lively debate among his supporters and critics alike.
Trump justified his choice by pointing to a recent CBS News poll that showed him leading with 62% support, while Florida Governor Ron DeSantis trailed behind at 16%. With such a commanding lead, Trump argued that he didn’t see the need to participate in the debates, stating, “I WILL THEREFORE NOT BE DOING THE DEBATES!”
However, the same poll revealed that 73% of likely Republican primary voters believe that Trump should indeed participate in the debates. This finding has fueled criticism from his rivals, who argue that every candidate has a responsibility to earn voters’ support.

Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie also criticized Trump for his decision, calling it disrespectful to the Republican Party and its voters. Christie emphasized that if a candidate qualifies for the debate stage, they should show up and make their case.
Trump’s choice to skip the debates has garnered support from some of his followers. Political commentator Jack Posobiec suggested that Trump should challenge President Biden to a debate instead. Meanwhile, Fox News contributor Leo Terrell celebrated Trump’s decision, declaring, “Official Announcement: Trump will NOT debate JV Squad!”
However, Trump has faced backlash from conservatives, including those who have previously supported him. Political commentator Tomi Lahren criticized his decision, stating that he needs to address his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, his reliance on Dr. Fauci, and his promotion of vaccines.
Cop out. He has to answer for his handling of Covid, anointing Lord Fauci and pushing vax. He had a phenomenal presidency but the last 7 months of it are still up for questioning… https://t.co/5jZnJs9Nco

As the debate rages on, influential Iowa media personality Steve Deace raised an interesting point, suggesting that Trump’s lawyers may be advising him against participating in the debates due to the legal risks involved. Fox Business reporter Charles Gasparino also noted that Trump’s decision could be seen as risky, as it allows his opponents to highlight perceived failures during his presidency.
Political commentator Stephen L. Miller speculated about the future, imagining the reaction if President Biden were to skip debates in the future. Miller concluded, “Of course he’s not going to a primary debate. He wouldn’t even debate Anthony Fauci.”
