Gold Star Mom Reveals Biden’s Heartless Comment as She Wept During Oval Office Meeting
A Gold Star mother whose son tragically lost his life during the chaotic Afghanistan withdrawal has come forward with a heartbreaking account of her visit to the White House and the heartless way President Joe Biden treated her.
In August 2021, during the botched withdrawal of American forces from Afghanistan, a suicide bomber detonated himself outside of Kabul Airport, resulting in the deaths of 13 U.S. service members.
One of those brave individuals was Army Staff Sgt. Ryan Christian Knauss. His mother, Paula Knauss Selph, had the opportunity to meet President Biden during an event for Gold Star families at the White House in 2022.
According to a U.K. Daily Mail report on Monday, during a Memorial Day event at the White House last year, Paula Selph had a meeting with the president in the Oval Office.
“I can’t do that because Secret Service won’t let me do that.”
Paula Selph was hoping for some sympathy, accountability, and closure from the president. However, Biden showed no compassion whatsoever.
As Selph tearfully reflected on the loss of her son, Biden made no effort to comfort her. Instead, he callously asked if she wanted a photo with him.
In response, the distraught mother expressed that she would only want a picture if it was of the president standing next to her son’s tombstone at Arlington National Cemetery.
“I can’t do that because Secret Service won’t let me do that.”
For Selph, this encounter was a “moral disgrace.” She expected the president to show sympathy and mercy to the families of the soldiers under his command, especially since she held him accountable for the tragedy.
It is understandable why Selph is angry about this meeting. The purpose of her visit was to honor her son’s sacrifice and find closure. However, Biden turned it into a photo opportunity, seemingly oblivious to the mother’s intentions.
This incident appears to be part of a pattern with Joe Biden. Since the Afghanistan withdrawal, he has displayed a similar indifference towards other Gold Star families.
In 2021, he spoke to Cherry Rex, the mother of Lance Cpl. Dylan Merola, who also lost his life in the bombing. During the ceremony for the transfer of Merola’s remains in Delaware, Biden compared her loss to the loss of his own son, Beau, who died from cancer.
Rex found herself shaking with anger at the thought that Biden would use the occasion to seek sympathy for himself, instead of focusing on the family who had just lost their son.
However, beyond the indifference shown to the families of the fallen, it is crucial to remember that Biden bears responsibility for the events in Afghanistan and must be held accountable.
His failure to ensure the safety of Americans and the abandonment of valuable military equipment in the country constitute a dereliction of duty, which could be grounds for impeachment.
Republicans in Congress have the opportunity to call these Gold Star families to testify about how the president failed to protect Americans and displayed complete indifference towards them and their suffering.
Biden failed to fulfill his responsibilities, resulting in the deaths of 13 Americans. Allowing him to evade accountability would be a grave injustice.
