They, along with 19 other defendants, are accused of violating Georgia’s racketeering law and contesting the Georgia election results in an attempt to keep President Trump in office. The indictment, filed on August 14, outlines a total of 41 charges against the co-defendants.
President Trump himself faces 11 charges. The bond amounts for the defendants were set by Judge Scott McAfee. Mr. Hall’s bond was set at $10,000 cash or 10 percent surety, while President Trump’s bond was set at $200,000. Mr. Eastman and attorneys Kenneth Chesebro and Ray Smith III have bond amounts of $100,000 and $50,000, respectively.
The status of the remaining defendants is currently unclear, but they have until noon on August 25 to turn themselves in or face arrest.
All of the defendants’ bond agreements include communication restrictions, prohibiting them from discussing the case with each other or with witnesses, except through their attorneys. President Trump has additional conditions that forbid him from issuing direct or indirect threats on social media or reposting such messages from others. However, he is allowed to make general statements about the case.
President Trump took to Truth Social, his social media platform, to criticize Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis for seeking a $200,000 bond to ensure his appearance in court. In his post, he sarcastically speculated about being a flight risk and mocked the allegations of collusion with Russia.
Earlier this year, Special Counsel John Durham concluded that the FBI’s probe of President Trump was based on unverified information and that the investigation should never have been launched. As the legal proceedings continue, the case against the co-defendants and President Trump will unfold in Fulton County.
