COVID-19 mask mandates reinstated in hospitals and offices.
Reports of Mask Mandates Re-emerging
Exciting news is circulating as colleges, hospitals, and officials are taking action to re-implement COVID-19 mask mandates. Despite relatively low hospitalizations, these institutions are prioritizing safety.
One notable example is Atlanta’s Morris Brown College, which recently announced on social media that it is reinstating its mask mandate. The college cited an increase in positive COVID-19 cases among students at the Atlanta University Center. In addition to masks, the college will enforce isolation and quarantine regimens, as well as contact tracing, following CDC guidelines.
“All students and employees are required to wear face masks (staff may remove in their offices while alone),” the announcement said.
The college has also implemented other precautionary measures, such as maintaining physical distancing, prohibiting large student gatherings or parties for the next two weeks, and conducting temperature checks for students and employees upon arrival.
Morris Brown President Kevin James clarified that there have been no reports of COVID-19 cases on the college campus. These steps are being taken as proactive measures. The Atlanta University Center comprises several historically black colleges, including Morehouse and Spelman Colleges and Clark Atlanta University.
In Upstate New York, Auburn Community Hospital has also reinstated its mask mandate. This decision comes about a month after the policy was officially lifted. The hospital now requires all staff, visitors, and patients to wear masks in clinical areas.
Similarly, Upstate Medical’s two hospitals, University and Community General, have reintroduced masking due to an increase in COVID-19 cases. Additionally, COVID-19 testing will be mandatory for admitted patients.
The company stated, ”Effective immediately, mandatory masking is required by all staff, visitors, and patients in clinical areas of Upstate University Hospital, Upstate Community Hospital, and ambulatory clinical spaces. Masking is strongly recommended in all non-clinical areas.”
According to CDC data, New York has experienced a 3 percent rise in COVID-19 hospitalizations as of August 5.
In Southern California, Lionsgate, a major Hollywood studio, has reinstated its mask mandate. The decision was made after several employees tested positive for COVID-19. The memo from Lionsgate manager Sommer McElroy states that employees must wear medical-grade face coverings in indoor spaces, with exceptions for specific situations.
The memo specifies that only the third and fifth floors of Lionsgate’s Santa Monica office will be subject to the mandate. The studio will provide at-home testing kits and masks for staff.
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has noted small increases in COVID-19 indicators but maintains that overall metrics remain at a low level of concern. The Epoch Times has reached out to Lionsgate for comment.
In New Jersey, Rutgers University has announced vaccine and mask mandates for students attending classes in the fall semester.
Speculation on Widespread Mask Reimplementation
Given these reports of mandates resurfacing in various locations, speculation has arisen regarding the possibility of another widespread push to reimplement masks across the country.
