Cruz criticizes opponent’s event attendance: ‘Only six people came’
Sen. Ted Cruz Blasts Opponent’s Event Turnout
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) didn’t hold back in criticizing his opponent’s recent event in San Antonio, Texas. According to Cruz, only six people showed up for the gathering, contradicting Rep. Colin Allred’s (D-TX) claim that the event had significant attendance.
“Wow. Six people showed up in San Antonio,” Cruz posted on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
Allred, a three-term congressman, is one of 11 candidates vying for the Democratic primary to represent Texas in the Senate. His visit to San Antonio was part of his “Lone Star Listening Tour,” aimed at connecting with constituents.
Since announcing his bid to challenge Cruz in the 2024 election, Allred has been leveraging his popularity gained from his recent election victory to gain support for his Senate campaign. Critics of Cruz believe his seat is vulnerable due to his association with former President Donald Trump, who is currently facing multiple indictments as he seeks a return to the White House.
“I’m running for the U.S. Senate because Texans deserve a senator whose team is Texas. Ted Cruz only cares about himself,” Allred stated when he announced his candidacy.
Cruz, who has been serving in the Senate since 2013, defeated then-Rep. Beto O’Rourke in the 2018 election. He also ran a competitive race for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016, ultimately losing to Trump.
