Alec Baldwin’s Legal Woes Mount as He Loses Crucial Court Battle
Alec Baldwin’s Legal Troubles Continue to Mount
Alec Baldwin’s legal troubles are far from over. In a recent court ruling, a New Mexico judge denied the actor’s motion to dismiss a civil suit filed by production crew members of the film “Rust,” as reported by Fox News.
Baldwin had previously faced involuntary manslaughter charges for the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the Western movie in 2021. However, those charges were dropped by prosecutors.
Despite this, Baldwin may still face charges for his alleged role in Hutchins’ death, as mentioned in The Western Journal.
During an on-set rehearsal, Baldwin was handling a revolver when Hutchins was shot. Baldwin denies pulling the trigger, but according to The New York Times, ballistic analysis suggests otherwise.
Judge Bryan Biedscheid also rejected Baldwin’s request to delay the resolution of the civil suit until the criminal proceedings are concluded, as reported by Fox.
The civil suit involves three plaintiffs who worked as contractors on the set of “Rust,” according to ABC News. They accuse Baldwin and his company, El Dorado Pictures, of creating an unsafe working environment.
The plaintiffs claim damages including hearing loss, temporary deafness, and vibrational shock resulting from their experiences on the film set, as mentioned in the Fox report.
They also allege that safety measures were compromised during production, with a shooting schedule that was only supposed to last 21 days.
Furthermore, the crew members accuse Baldwin of unsafe practices while handling the revolver that caused Hutchins’ fatal injury.
“He did not request that anyone verify or demonstrate the revolver’s safety before this exchange.”
“And he did not ask to see whether ammunition was present inside the revolver’s chamber — despite his knowledge of the observable differences between a live and dummy round, and a loaded and unloaded chamber.”
“Instead, Defendant Baldwin accepted the revolver without any verification that it was a ’cold gun.'”
Baldwin’s attorney, Robert Schwartz, criticized the ruling against dismissing the suit, calling it a “real injustice” and unnecessary. He also argued that the suit was filed 16 months after the shooting, suggesting it was untimely, as reported in The Western Journal.
As of now, no final decision has been made regarding potential criminal charges against Baldwin, according to New Mexico special prosecutor Kari Morrissey, as stated by Fox News.
