Kari Lake to decide on Arizona Senate run by late 2023.
Former Arizona Gubernatorial Candidate Considers Run for U.S. Senate
Former Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake is making waves once again as she contemplates a run for the U.S. Senate in 2024. In an exclusive interview with NewsNation’s The Hill, Lake revealed that she will make her decision by the end of this year.
Arizona Needs a Senator Who Puts the People First
Lake, known for her strong conservative values, expressed her desire for a senator who prioritizes the people of Arizona and puts America first. She criticized the current senator for voting in alignment with President Joe Biden’s agenda a staggering 93-100% of the time. According to Lake, Arizona is ready for a change.
Preparing for a Potential Run
Reports suggest that Lake has already begun the process of assembling a team, interviewing consultants, and hiring staff members in anticipation of an October campaign launch. If she enters the race, Lake will face off against Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), who is challenging Sen. Krysten Sinema (I-AZ) for her seat.
Sinema, who has not yet announced her intentions for reelection, could potentially turn the race into a high-stakes three-way battle. The Cook Political Report rates the seat as a “toss-up,” adding to the excitement surrounding the upcoming election.
Concerns and Controversies
Lake’s hard-line conservative stance has raised concerns among establishment Arizona Republicans, who fear a repeat of the 2022 elections. In that election cycle, several hard-line Republicans won the primaries but ultimately lost to Democratic candidates in the general election.
Despite her loss in the 2022 gubernatorial race, Lake has continued to assert claims of election fraud. She even took her allegations to the Maricopa County Superior Court, where the court ultimately ruled that there was no evidence of fraud. Nevertheless, Lake remains steadfast in her belief and echoes former President Donald Trump’s reaction to the 2020 election results.
A Defamation Lawsuit and Freedom of Speech
Recently, Lake found herself entangled in a defamation lawsuit filed by Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer. Richer alleges that Lake made false claims about him sabotaging the election to prevent her victory. Lake argues that, as a public official, Richer is subject to criticism under Arizona’s Strategic Action Against Public Participation law.
The outcome of this lawsuit hinges on whether Richer can prove that Lake knowingly made false statements or acted recklessly in regard to their truthfulness. Lake, on the other hand, maintains that she is entitled to her opinion on the outcome of the 2022 election.
As the political landscape in Arizona heats up, all eyes are on Kari Lake as she contemplates her next move. Stay tuned for updates on her decision and the exciting developments in the race for the U.S. Senate seat.
