Former ⁢President Donald Trump Clarifies Reasons for Skipping RNC Primary Debate

Former President Donald Trump recently sat down for an engaging interview with Tucker Carlson to discuss his decision to skip the Republican National Committee’s primary debate. The interview, which took place in Bedminster, New Jersey, and aired on Wednesday night, ⁣shed light on Trump’s perspective.

During the interview, Trump proudly highlighted his impressive ‍poll numbers, ⁤where he leads all of his 2024 rivals by double digits. However, he went on to‌ explain that he chose to skip the debate to avoid dealing with attacks from ⁢other candidates.

Trump further commented on the network’s‌ support for Ron DeSantis, the Governor ⁤of Florida, whom they⁢ had previously backed but seemed to have given up on. He drew parallels to his experience in ⁤2016, where he ⁤faced similar ‌challenges⁣ but eventually gained their support after winning the election.

The interview with⁤ Carlson ‌began⁢ at 8:55 p.m. Eastern​ time, just five minutes before the RNC debate featuring eight presidential candidates vying to position themselves as the top Trump-alternative candidate, which aired at 9 p.m.

It is evident that Trump’s decision to skip the ‌debate was a strategic move‍ to divert media attention away from his rivals and express⁢ his dissatisfaction with both the RNC and Fox News, organizations he has openly criticized. Trump pointed out that the network had shown friendliness towards two ​of⁢ his rivals, DeSantis‍ and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.

Additionally, Trump declined to endorse the RNC’s loyalty pledge, a requirement for ⁤all presidential candidates participating in the debate. Whether⁤ he will participate‍ in future RNC debates remains uncertain.
